Dior Baily
There are expert technicians, specialized mechanics, professional computer operators, and then there is Dior. He is neither of these, yet he is proficient in his own skills. He has been working on systems of ships almost all his life, learned the trade from his father. Not the systems that most concentrate on, not the piloting systems, navigation or life support systems, or fusion technology, he is an expert on the ones that hold no glamor whatsoever. He handles sanitation systems, garbage and trash disposal systems, heating pipes, water purification systems, and a host of other systems that make space a bit more comfortable that no one thinks about, in the lower bowls of the ships he has worked on. He began work on the Star’s Necrosis when Capt. Jace Stratton had hired a mech crew to reconstruct the derelict ship. Most of Baily’s jobs were temporary, often outsourced by more educated engineers or even robots, especially when the owner of the ship finds out that Dior’s most valuable contributions is jimmy rigging the systems so only he really knows how to fix them. Entire systems often had to be replaced after Dior ‘fixed’ them, so they could be within regulation guidelines, and this often didn’t stand well with Dior’s employers. Stratton, however, liked the man’s loyalty and dedication, and saw that, though jimmy rigged, most of the systems that Dior had worked on were far superior in efficiency and performance then those that fall into regulations of the C.U.P. He kept Dior on as a member of the crew, and will often go down to have a drink with Dior on occasions, despite the smell.
Positives: System sanitations and various other systems expert. Strong hand to hand fighter, but very friendly and loyal to those he considers friends.
Negatives: Often jimmy rigs systems to his liking, making it a frustrating for other technicians to work on those systems and down right impossible for droids to operate on. Though intelligent, he is not very educated, and may come off to those that do not know him as stupid, an ignorant bumpkin. Due to the systems, and the heated stuffy air on the decks he works on, Dior isn’t the best smelling man. Doesn’t like robots or droids.
Cewsh
Cewsh’s race is unknown, even to himself. He has no memory of what species he is, what planet he is from, or how he got to the little sub-space station that Jace had found him in. Even the experienced Cutler, with all of his knowledge and interaction with other alien races, has no idea where Cewsh comes from. Cutler has hypothesized that Cewsh could be from a non-space faring race, abducted by another species, and his memory wiped, much like the Zeta Reticulans used to due centuries before it became part of the Coalition and the practice was 'officially' abolished. Cewsh has shown some telepathic abilities, though he can not mentally communicate or read mind. Cutler noticed that he is like a telepathic sponge, absorbing telepathic waves and preventing telepathic species from communicating in the mind and preventing them reading thoughts. For this reason, when Cutler goes to negotiate contracts with clients or acts as ambassador with hostile races that are encounter from time to time, he will bring Cewsh with him. Officially, Cewsh is the cook of the ship, Stratton not liking cryo-sleep (cryogenic sleep is used on especially long space trips to preserve one’s sanity, but is used for shorter trips to save space on board by not having to use cargo space for food or supplies). He is artistic, and very astute in human nature, often waxing philosophy from the books and computer archives he reads.
Positives: Telepathic dampening abilities, a first class cook, often cooking up meals from very exotic ingredients. Gets along very well with very member of the crew, especially Saraya Nunez, who shares his enthusiasm for cooking.
Negatives: Very naïve when it comes to knowledge of the galaxy in general, and technology specifically. Very sensitive, and is a pacifist.
Dr. Charybdis
A species of the Zeta Reticulans, Dr. Charybdis has the dubious status of being one of the very few of the species to be wanted by the Coalition for crimes against galactic society. Crimes include aiding and abetting criminals, practicing and performing medical procedures without an issued license, murder, smuggling, manslaughter, and various other crimes. It is unknown whether Dr. Charybdis went through legal channels to obtain is medical degree; nonetheless, he is a gifted doctor and surgeon, specializing in several fields. Charybdis started his career in the Hindasar system, where he established his own "practice" specializing in cyborging and inexpensive surgery, both legal and illegal reconstructive plastic surgery and highly illegal retina replacements. Once the medical and law enforcement authorities caught up with him, he disappeared to another system, where he began his operations anew. He would repeat this process on several worlds, gaining a reputation as the go to doctor for criminal organizations. He met Jace when on the ecumenopolis planet (a planet whose entire surface is covered by a singe worldwide city) of Deliran. Not only had the Coalition police force tracked him down again, but an influential and powerful crime lord known as Vigos wanted him dead after his failure to save one his sons when a sexually transmitted virus that infected the young man. There is no known cure for this virus. Jace was the only smuggler that would aid Charybdis. Once they escaped, Charybdis offered his services as ship’s doctor, especially since it would be very difficult to set up another practice considering his now damaged relationship with the criminal underworld. Jace was hesitant at first, but after a close call during a trade ship high jacking left one of his crew in critical condition, Dr. Charybdis saved the crew members life. Thus, the Star’s Necrosis got its first medical doctor. If asked to describe Dr. Charybdis in one word, most of the crew would say “creepy”. Like most of the Zeta Reticulans, Charybdis is very unemotional, giving a feeling of detachment to his patients and to the crew. He spends almost all his time in the medical lab, surrounded by the latest in medical journals and technology that Jace can afford to download and procure. He rarely comes out of the lab except to eat, and then, usually eats by himself. He is telepathic, but rarely likes to put himself in lower beings minds (and by lower beings, that means most of the crew in his view).
Positives: Gifted surgeon and doctor, telepathic (on numerous occasions as allowed telepathic communications among crew members when other communications were impossible), expert on diseases and viruses.
Negative: Completely detached from the rest of the crew, and often condescending when he speaks to them. Most of the crew don’t like him, or trust him.
